SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The University of Denver men's soccer program had three student-athletes earn specialty awards, and 10 student-athletes earn honors overall in the Summit League postseason awards that the league office released on Saturday.
Redshirt-junior Kyle McGowan was named the Summit League Offensive Player of the Year, redshirt senior Trevor Wright was named the Summit League Defensive Player of the Year and senior goalkeeper Isaac Nehme was voted the Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year.
The Pioneer trio was joined on the Summit League First Team by redshirt junior forward Bryce Willoughby. Redshirt sophomore Luke Schultz was named to the Summit League Second Team and a quartet of Pioneers were voted to Summit League Honorable Mention in Dylan Akau, Grant Lund, Aidan Semelsberger and Jake Smith. Freshman midfielder Erik Collins rounded out the group of Pioneers recognized, joining Lund on the Summit League All-Newcomer Team.
Denver claimed a share of the Summit League regular season title and the tournament's No. 1 overall seed, earning 13 of a possible 18 points in the league table. The Pioneers will host fourth-seeded Oral Roberts on Sunday at 1 p.m. MT in the Summit League Semifinal (BUY TICKETS).
McGowan earned the first conference honor of his career on Saturday after scoring four goals across Denver's six league matches. The redshirt junior netted his first career brace in a 2-0 win at Omaha, and also scored goals in Denver's 2-0 win over Delaware and in its 2-0 win over Oral Roberts last Saturday. In the campaign overall, McGowan played in all 18 matches, starting 16 in an attacking position for the Pioneers, tallying a team-high seven goals to go with two assists.
Wright earned his first specialty award, his second first-team selection and his third All-Summit League nod overall on Saturday. The Castle Rock native played all 1620 minutes in the regular season in the center of a Denver defense that allowed the fewest goals in league matches (4) and allowed just 22 shots on goal across the six league games. Wright added two goals and two assists, with all four goal contributions coming in non-conference action.
Nehme earned his third Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year honor on Saturday, his fourth specialty award overall (Newcomer of the Year in 2022) and his fourth all-conference pick. In the six league matches, Nehme and his defense allowed just three goals in the 530 minutes he played, keeping three cleansheets along the way. In Denver's 2-1 win over Kansas City on September 27, Nehme made a career-high eight saves.
