[16/16] Denver Falls to Providence on Senior Saturday

The Pioneers close out the regular season at Marquette Friday night

DENVER – The [16/16] University of Denver men's lacrosse team dropped its regular season home finale to Providence on Senior Saturday by a count of 10-6 at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.

First Quarter:
Providence got all four goals of the opening quarter, including three in a 90 second stretch. Denver had just one shot on goal in the final seconds of the frame from 12-yards out.

Second Quarter:
PC stretched its lead to 6-0 before Denver caught a lucky break when a turned over past deflected off a Providence defender and into the back of the net.

The Friars answered the potential Denver spark with three more goals to make it 9-1 with 2:58 to go before Jack Tortolani got his ninth goal of the season with 2:00 to cut the deficit back to seven.

Providence took that seven-goal lead into the locker room at the intermission. PC outshot the Pios 25-10 in the first 30 minutes, including 14-6 on goal.

Third Quarter:
Denver opened the second half on a 3-0 run, and hit a couple of pipes after that that could have made it bigger. Noah Manning opened the scoring 90 second in to make it 9-3. Cody Malawsky redirected a Jack Tortolani pass on the man-up to make it 9-4 and Joshua Carlson hit one from outside off a feed from Daniel Clark to complete the run.

After Denver challenging an improper reset of the shot clock was unsuccessful, Providence put an end to the run to make it a 10-5 game, a lead the visitors took into the final 15 minutes.

Fourth Quarter:
Both teams were scoreless in the first 11 minutes of the fourth quarter before Malawsky threw an overhead pass to Marek Tzagournis to cut the deficit to four.

UP NEXT:
Denver will close out the 2025 regular season next Friday when the Pioneers travel to Marquette. Opening faceoff on BEDN on FloCollege is set for 6 p.m. CT/5 p.m. MT.
