Box Score DENVER – The University of Denver volleyball team earned its first sweep of the season against the Texas Southern Tigers (25-10, 25-14, 25-13) on Friday evening in Hamilton Gymnasium.
Genevieve Lewis led the Pioneers with 12 kills and a .524 hitting percentage while
Izabela Molina and
Elise Hart each added seven kills. On the defensive end,
Alicia Thibodeau made nine digs and
Maddie Winkler added six.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1
Denver jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead to start the set and didn't look back en route to a 25-10 set one victory. The Pioneers amounted a .370 hitting percentage with a trio of kills by
Elise Hart,
Ava Reynolds and
Alicia Thibodeau in the first stanza.
SET 2
The Denver offense kept its momentum rolling in set two, jumping out to an early 8-1 lead. Texas Southern was able to cut into the Pioneers' lead but Denver kept its offense rolling to earn a 25-14 victory.
SET 3
The Pioneers once again jumped out to an early lead on their way to the sweep.
Genevieve Lewis led the offense, with seven kills in the final stanza alongside a trio from
Jamia Johnson.
