DENVER – The University of Denver men's lacrosse program has named four student-athletes captains for the 2026 season, William G. Tierney Head Men's Lacrosse Coach
Matt Brown announced on Friday.
Denver's 2026 roster will be led by
Russell Overly,
Chris Caldwell,
Cody Malawsky and
Joe Taraboletti.
A redshirt junior defenseman, Overly was named the University of Denver's Comeback Player of the Year in 2024-25, playing in all 14 games after missing the majority of the 2024 campaign, suffering a lower body injury. Overly picked up 27 ground balls and forced 13 turnovers in his redshirt-sophomore season after scoring two goals and adding an assist.
Caldwell played in all 14 games of his redshirt sophomore season in 2025, picking up a team-high 39 ground balls and forcing 15 turnovers. The Draper, Utah, native earned a pair of weekly awards from the BIG EAST Conference last season.
Fresh off a little Minto Magic last summer where he was named the Most Valuable Player, Malawsky returns for his redshirt-junior season in 2026 after producing 32 points in each of his first two campaigns in Crimson and Gold. Malawsky finished with 18 goals and 14 assists in 12 appearances for the Pioneers in 2025.
Taraboletti is set for his fifth year in the Denver program, playing in 13 of Denver's 14 games last year and producing eight points on five goals and three helpers. In his career, Taraboletti has made 26 career appearances.
Earlier this week, Denver announced its 2026 schedule, headlined by eight home games, starting with a date with Cleveland State on January 31. Opening faceoff is set for 12 p.m. MT.
