DENVER – The University of Denver volleyball team will hit the road for the first time in West Coast Conference play on Saturday, traveling to San Diego for a 1 p.m. MT matchup against the Toreros at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
The Pioneers enter the weekend 8-6 overall and 1-1 in their inaugural WCC season after opening conference play with a three-set sweep of Pacific before falling to Saint Mary's in four sets.
Denver has been led offensively by Jamia Johnson, Alicia Thibodeau and Kayla Patel, while Elise Hart has also provided a strong presence at the net. Lily Van Hal and Ilayda Eren have continued to share setting responsibilities, with Madison Winkler anchoring the Pioneers defensively.
The Pioneers will face a San Diego team that went undefeated in WCC play last season. Saturday's matchup will mark just the second meeting between the programs, with the Toreros earning a four-set victory over Denver in their lone previous meeting in 2009.
Saturday's contest marks Denver's first WCC road match as the Pioneers continue their inaugural season in the conference. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
