DENVER – University of Denver gymnast
Megan Aamold was named the Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week for the second week in a row, the conference announced on Tuesday.
The Denver freshman collected the fifth Newcomer of the Week nod for the season after again improving on her career high on beam and winning at least a share of the title for the second consecutive week, this time with a 9.925 at Arizona State on February 7. She moved back in the lineup to the anchor spot, doing so for the first time in her career and helping solidify Denver's season-high 49.450 on the event – an improvement of two tenths over the team's previous season's best.
Her score was also the final counted score toward Denver's 196.950 final score, also a new season high by nearly fourth tenths.
This is Aamold's second career Big 12 Conference award and DU's third weekly conference award of the season, joining fellow freshman
Shyla Bhatia 's Newcomer of the Week nod following the first full week of the season on January 14.
The No. 18-ranked University of Denver gymnastics team hosts its second Big 12 Conference home meet of the year when it welcomes Arizona to Magness Arena on Saturday, February 14, at 6:45 p.m. MT.
