Pioneers begin sixth full season over Labor Day weekend
DENVER – The Denver Pioneers women's triathlon team ranks tied for fourth among Division-I programs in the 2026 preseason coaches poll that was released earlier this week by the Collegiate Triathlon Coaches Association.
Denver gets set to begin its sixth full season in 2026 after finishing seventh among D-I squads and ninth overall at last year's Collegiate National Championships in Tempe, Arizona.
The Pioneers are tied for fourth with San Francisco, while defending champion Arizona is first, perennial power Arizona State is second and Texas Christian University third. The remainder of the preseason poll includes South Dakota in sixth, Queens University of Charlotte in seventh, East Tennessee State in eighth, Navy in ninth and Duquesne in 10th.
Maira Carreau, the 2023 individual national champion, returns for her senior season with the Pioneers and is joined by two other upperclassmen in graduate student Coco Reed and junior-transfer Rebecca Nolan from Wingate University.
DU added two freshmen in Lucy Eggleston and Samantha Perry, while their sophomore class includes Lucrezia Gowdy, Mia Stanley-Hunt, Jenna Topott and Olivia Wimberger. Head coach Barbara Perkins is set for her seventh overall season since the program was established in 2020-21.
The Pioneers open the 2026 campaign next weekend on Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Southern Hills Triathlon super sprint at Angostura State Recreation Area in Hot Springs, South Dakota. The national championships return to Tempe Town Lake in Arizona on Sunday, Nov. 8.
