Maira Carreau Named Triathlon 2026 Team Captain

Sophomores Lucrezia Gowdy and Olivia Wimberger to serve as co-vice captains
DENVER – University of Denver women's triathlon has announced its leadership group for the 2026-27 season, with senior Maira Carreau serving as team captain and sophomores Lucrezia Gowdy and Olivia Wimberger assisting as co-vice captains.

Carreau is the program's all-time leader in wins (4), podiums (9), top-five finishes (11) and top-10s (15), reaching each of the mark in just three years. She owns four career victories, including the 2023 individual national championship—the first in Denver triathlon history. She has placed in the top 10 in 15 of 16 career events.

The La Prairie, Quebec, native also served as a team captain in 2025-26 with Elizabeth Harita and set the school mark during that campaign with six top-10 finishes. She earned her third consecutive first team All-American award by coming in fourth at the 2025 Collegiate National Championships in Tempe, Arizona, and won the Tritonman draft-legal race in the spring season in March 2026 in San Diego, California. Carreau began the 2026 campaign by finishing third in the season-opening Southern Hills Super Sprint on Sept. 5 in Hot Springs, South Dakota.

Gowdy recorded three top-20 results and tied the team record with eight total races as a freshman in 2025-26. The Jacksonville, Florida, native came in 27th in the 2025 Western Regional Championships in Fort Worth, Texas, during the regular season before earning her first two top-five results at the collegiate level in the spring, coming in fifth in the draft-legal and winning the non-draft legal at Tritonman events in the spring. She opened 2026 by placing 33rd in the Southern Hills Super Sprint.

Wimberger competed in five races as a freshman in 2025-26, which included making her college debut and placing 45th in the Southern Hills Triathlon Super Sprint in South Dakkota. The Shakopee, Minnesota, native qualified for the national championships as a rookie and went on to post her best result of the year in the spring by finishing 26th in the Tritonman Draft-Legal in San Diego. She was DU's fifth scorer in 42nd in this year's Southern Hills Super Sprint to start the new season.

Denver continues its 2026 campaign with its first full sprint on Sunday at the Desert's Edge Triathlon at Highline State Park near Grand Junction. The team then travels to Annapolis, Maryland, for the Navy Collegiate Cup on Oct. 3 before the postseason gets underway with the Western Regional Championships on Oct. 18 in Fort Worth. The National Championships return to Tempe on Nov. 8 to close out the fall primary season.
