DENVER – University of Denver volleyball's Madison Winkler has been named the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. The honor marks the Pioneers' first WCC weekly award of the 2026 season.
Winkler helped Denver to a perfect 3-0 weekend at the Denver Invitational, collecting 59 digs across the Pioneers' three matches. The sophomore libero recorded 19 digs in Denver's four-set win over SIUE, followed by 11 digs against Idaho and 29 digs in the Pioneers' four-set victory over Marist.
Winkler's 29 digs against Marist were just three shy of her career-high 32 digs, which she recorded against CSUN on Aug. 29. Her defensive efforts helped Denver finish the weekend undefeated and claim the Denver Invitational title, improving to 5-1 on the season.
This is Winkler's first career WCC Defensive Player of the Week honor.
