WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (Dec. 2) -- University of Denver senior forward Brian Todd (Littleton, Colo. / Columbine HS / Univ. of South Alabama) has been named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Soccer All-Conference Team, as announced by the league office Thursday.
Todd led the Pioneers and the entire 16-team MPSF in goals scored (15) and overall points (37) during the 1999 season, which was Denver's first in the league and second as a member of NCAA Division I. It is the Pioneers' first postseason honor since Mike Adams, Kevin Horn and Geir Skari were named to the NCAA Division II All-Great Plains Region team in 1997.
Denver improved on a 3-13-1 record in its first Division I season in 1998 by finishing 8-11 overall this season. In addition, the Pioneers went 4-3 in their inaugural MPSF Mountain Division season, which included a 1-0, double-overtime upset of then-No. 20 California. MPSF Pacific Division member UCLA is competing this weekend in the NCAA National Men's Soccer College Cup Championship and was one of three league schools this season to reach the 32-team NCAA Tournament (Washington, Stanford).
In other awards announced Thursday, Washington head coach Dean Wurzberger was named MPSF Mountain Coach of the Year, while the Huskies' Wes Hart, a former teammate of Todd's at Columbine, earned Player of the Year honors.
