SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – University of Denver men's soccer redshirt senior captain Trevor Wright and redshirt sophomore Luke Schultz brought home this week's Kwik Star Summit League Defensive and Offensive Peak Performer of the Week honors, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Schultz helped Denver come from behind in a 2-1 win over No. 14 Georgetown last Tuesday night, serving a corner kick to the head of Wright to provide an instant response to a Hoyas' penalty and level the match at 1-1. With 16 seconds to play, Schultz netted a free kick to send the Pioneers to their first win over a ranked opponent this season. The game-winning goal was Denver's latest in regulation in program history, while the goal was tied for the fourth-latest overall in the program's Division I era.
Wright scored his second goal of the season in the 19th minute off a back-post corner to provide a response 55 seconds after the Georgetown opener. In a battle of two of the top teams in the league, Wright captained a back four that held the second-ranked offensive in the country without a goal in the Pioneers 2-0 win over Delaware on Saturday at the University of Denver Soccer Stadium. The win sent Denver to the top of the table in the league, and moved the Pioneers to 19th in the latest RPI.
