Patel Falls in Semifinals of 2000 BellSouth Mobility Collegiate Tennis Classic
Lafayette, LA -- University of Denver's Magnus Ramfelt (Bromma, Sweden) and Boris Turkic (Samobor, Croatia) each lost opening round matches in flight A of the 2000 BellSouth Mobility Collegiate Tennis Classic hosted by the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. Both Pioneers then ripped off three consecutive victories and found themselves head-to-head in the championship match of the consolation bracket. Turkic defeated Ramfelt (6-1, 6-2) to earn the win, Sunday.
Pioneer Jay Patel (Ahmedabad, India), playing in the singles flight B, won his first three matches, before falling to Rafael Reyes of Rice (6-3, 6-4) in the semifinals.
Lachlan Menzies (Perth, Australia) also lost his opening match in singles flight B. He then won three straight and found himself in the championship match of the flight B consolation bracket. Menzies fell to New Orleans' Anders Oding (6-0, 6-1) , who also knocked off Denver's Mike Ceilley (W. Des Moines, IA) in the consolation semifinals.
In doubles competition, Denver did not fare as well. All three Pioneer doubles teams fell in their opening matches.
