Women's Soccer Drills Louisiana-Monroe, 5-1

DENVER -- The University of Denver women's soccer team remained unbeaten at Pioneer Field today, defeating Louisiana-Monroe, 5-1. The win improves Denver's season record to 7-3-2 on the season, 2-1 in Sun Belt Conference play. Louisiana-Monroe drops to 4-11 with the loss.

The Pioneers got on the scoreboard first in the 19th minute of the game when freshman Melissa Behrent (Westmister, Colo.) took a pass from teammate Jamie Norwood (Littleton, Colo.) and put the ball past Indian goalkeeper Jessica Robinson for a 1-0 Denver lead. Freshman Mychael Movius (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) followed that just a minute and a half later when she scored unassisted on a free kick to give Denver a 2-0 lead that they would carry into halftime.

Louisiana-Monroe would be the first to get on the scoreboard in the second half, as Chelsea Shriner took a feed from Erin Mosely off a free kick and blasted a shot past Denver goalkeeper Pam Clark (Durango, Colo.) to cut the Pioneer lead to 2-1. But Denver would put the game away seven minutes later, as freshman Jenni Harris (Littleton, Colo.) headed a free kick from Norwood over Robinson to give the Pioneers a 3-1 lead.

Perhaps the highlight of the day for Denver came in the 66th minute, when Norwood scored on a corner kick for her fourth point of the afternoon and first goal. Movius would add another Denver goal in the 75th minute to account for the 5-1 final.

The Pioneers thoroughly dominated Louisiana-Monroe on the afternoon, out-shooting the Indians by a 28-3 margin. Clark made just one save on the afternoon but her services were not needed as the game went Denver's way most of the day.

The Pioneers are next in action Friday, Oct. 15 when they travel to face SBC foe North Texas at 6:00 p.m.
