MOBILE, Ala. -- University of Denver sophomore midfielder Kristin Warren (Littleton, Colo.), freshman midfielder Mychael Movius (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) and sophomore goalkeeper Erica Izard (Fort Collins, Colo.) earned all-Sun Belt Conference honors during the league's first-ever women's soccer championship awards banquet. The festivities were held Wednesday night in the Grand Ballroom of the Clarion Hotel in Mobile, Ala., the site of the first annual Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.
Movius, who led the Pioneers this season with 20 points (seven goals and six assists), and Warren, who contributed 10 points to the Denver offense with five goals, earned first-team all-SBC honors. Izard, the league's best goalkeeper with a 0.99 goals against average and .830 saves percentage, received second-team plaudits.
Florida International University's Michele O'Brien was named Sun Belt player of the year and teammate Sasja Odenyo picked up Newcomer of the year honors. North Texas forward Marilyn Marin received freshman of the year honors while FIU head coach Everton Edwards took home Coach of the Year. O'Brien, Odenyo and Marin were also unanimous selections to the league's first-ever all-Sun Belt Conference Women's Soccer First Team. The awards were voted on by the leagues eight head coaches.
Rounding out the first-team were North Texas' Teresa Vise, Christy Johnson, and Kim Brunette, South Alabama's Cindy Rainville and Jackie Shirer, and Middle Tennessee State's Jenny Cox.
Second team selections included FIU's Ofeoma Dieke and Jen Servedio, Arkansas Little Rock's Jennifer Heinrichs, MTSU's Kenya Hickey, Arkansas State's Tiffany Hull and Rachael Reese, USA's Kyla Rogers and Lindsay Rogers, and North Texas' Emily Stevens and Gina Turner.
The Pioneers face No. 5 seed Middle Tennessee State this Thursday, November 2 in a first-round match-up in the inaugural Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Kick-off is set for 11 a.m. MST.
