Davidson Downs Denver Women's Lacrosse

NASHVILLE, TENN. (April 15) Sophomores Beth Calder and Molly Cherington each scored three goals to lead Davidson to a 13-7 win over the University of Denver in women's lacrosse action at the Vanderbilt Lacrosse Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., on Saturday, April 15. Denver, losers of seven of its last eight games, fell to 2-9 on the year while Davidson upped its overall mark to 5-7.

Calder put the Wildcats on the board with a goal ten minutes into the first half, sparking a 4-0 Davidson run. The Pioneers' Mariana Spry snapped the Davidson spurt with a tally at 3:43 of the opening frame, but the Wildcats scored two goals before time expired to take a 6-1 halftime edge.

Davidson extended its lead to 10-2 early in the second half by notching four of the first five goals in the frame. The Pioneers rallied to narrow the Wildcat advantage to 10-6 midway through the second stanza behind goals from Dominique Cook, Nicole Lapotosky and a pair of tallies from Kim Bodick. Davidson salted away the victory, however, with three unanswered goals over a three-minute stretch late in the second half.

Kim Bodick paced the Pioneers with three goals and an assist in a losing effort. Davidson's Lisa Benjamin made 16 saves while the Pioneers' Sarah Hazard stopped 12 shots.
