Denver Swimmers Down Metro State

The University of Denver men's and women's swimming and diving teams dominated the dual meet against Metropolitan State College of Denver on Saturday afternoon at the El Pomar Natatorium by winning all 24 events. The men won by a score of 111-60, the women won 119-32.

Leading the charge for the men was junior Chase Kelly (Littleton, Colo.) who won the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.27) and finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.28). Also swimming well for the men were senior Brian Keats (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomores Nick Boorman (Atascadero, Calif.) and John Kolstoe (Fort Collins, Colo.). Keats won the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.75), Boorman won the 50-yard freestyle (22.41) and Kolstoe breezed to a first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.99). Sophomore diver John Conyers (Lakewood, Colo.) chipped in 18 points by sweeping the one and three meter diving events (177.38, 180.00).

For the women, senior Helen Rychecky (Littleton, Colo.) paced the way with two first place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (25.70) and a personal-best time in the 100-yard freestyle (55.12). Senior Sarah Corcoran (Denver, Colo.) swam well and earned two first place finishes in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events (1:59.53, 5:36.38). Freshman diver Kitt Watkins (Littleton, Colo.) contributed 18 points to the cause by winning the one and three meter diving events (231.08, 239.10).

The Denver swimmers will hit the road for three consecutive away meets. The Pioneers will compete next weekend (Dec. 7-9) at the Colorado College Classic in Colorado Springs, Colo. before heading to Florida to take on Rollins College (Dec. 12) and Miami (Dec. 14). The Denver women will host their next home meet against North Texas on Friday, January 4 at 4 p.m.
