Denver Women's Lacrosse Falls to American, 15-8

DENVER -- Despite getting a game-high four goals from junior midfielder Dominique Cook (Morrison, Colo. / Colorado Academy), the University of Denver women's lacrosse team was defeated 15-8 by American University at Pioneer Field on Tuesday afternoon. The game ends a four-game homestand that won't see the Pioneers return until the home finale on April 9.

After scoring the game's first goals, the Eagles (2-3) went up 3-0 when they scored back-to-back goals within 11 seconds of each other just 13:27 into the game. Although the Pioneers (1-5) scored the next two goals, including Cook's first, American would go on a 7-1 binge over the final 9:45 of the first half to take an insurmountable 10-3 lead into the locker room.

Cook's second goal just 1:46 into the second half started a 4-1 Denver scoring streak over the first 10 minutes of the period, yet the Eagles were able to keep pace with a balanced scoring attack as eight different American players scored in the game.

The Denver women hit the road for two games next week, starting with a 2 p.m. (MST) game at Ohio State next Friday, March 23. The Pioneers conclude the two-game trip the following Sunday, March 25, with a 19 a.m. game at Notre Dame.
