DENVER -- Despite a strong effort, the University of Denver women's tennis team lost to No. 21-ranked Florida International, 6-1, Friday at Denver's Stapleton Tennis Pavilion.
The contest opened with doubles and saw the Golden Panthers take all three matches to earn the doubles point. On the singles courts, the Pioneers played well, but were unable to find much luck against their highly-ranked opponent. Denver did manage to win one match on the singles courts, however, as senior Martina Pospisilova (Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic) came from behind to defeat Florida International's Anneliesse Rose, who entered the match ranked No. 61 in the country. Pospisilova won her eighth straight match, defeating Rose 4-6, 6-1 and 7-6, to improve to 16-5 on the season.
Denver (4-11, 0-2 SBC) will try to win its first Sun Belt Conference match of the season Saturday (Apr. 7) as the Pioneers host Arkansas State at 9 a.m. at the Stapleton Tennis Pavilion.
