SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Junior Yanick Dullens (Susteren, Netherlands) and sophomores Suzana Maksovic (Helsingborg, Sweden) and Jenny Trettin (Berlin, Germany) won their opening singles matches for the University of Denver women's tennis team at the 2003 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Women's Championships today in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Dullens defeated Nebraska's Milena Schulz-Gartner (6-4, 6-3), while Maksovic beat Arkansas' Melissa Cornett (6-3, 6-4) and Trettin handled Missouri's Hana Kraftova (6-1, 6-2). All three players advanced to the round of 32 scheduled for tomorrow morning.
"We had a great start today," head coach Dana Young said. "Hopefully, we can carry over the momentum tomorrow."
Singles and doubles action continues all day tomorrow at the Eccles Tennis Center.
