PROVO, Utah – University of Denver women's tennis player
Louise Wikander won the 2025 ITA Mountain Regional singles title on Saturday morning.
The No. 8-seeded senior from Helsingborg, Sweden, captured a 6-3 win in the first set and was named the winner after her opponent, No. 1 seed Emma Kamper from Utah, retired ahead of the start of the second set.
With the win, Wikander has earned automatic qualification into the 2025 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championships, which will be held on November 18-23 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.
Denver will now have had a singles player qualify for the NCAA Championships in consecutive seasons after
Andrea Burguete Beltran also did so as the ITA Mountain Regional singles finalist a season ago.
This will be Wikander's first appearance at the NCAA Championships as a singles qualifier.
DU has now been represented in consecutive ITA Mountain Regional singles finals after Burguete Beltran lost a three-set heartbreaker in 2024.
Wikander becomes the fourth Denver women's player to win an ITA Regional singles championship, joining
Taylor Melville (2022),
Anna Riedmiller (2021) and
Annette Aksdal (2006).
Across the six matches played en route to winning the title, Wikander did not lose a set. She only once faced a tiebreaker – winning it, 7-5, in the quarterfinals – and she lost five or fewer games in all but one match in total.
The University of Denver women's tennis team continues its fall season when it hosts the annual Colorado Cup at Denver Tennis Park on October 24-26.
