BABSON PARK, Mass. - The University of Denver women's lacrosse team go six goals from junior co-captain Patience Baldwin (Baltimore, Md.) and first year Steph Greenlees (Lake Forest, Ill.) to defeat the University of Vermont Catamounts, 19-17, in overtime.
With the victory Denver improves to 6-5, while Vermont falls to 2-5. The Pioneers' six victories match last year's win total.
The Catamounts led 11-8 at the half, only to see that lead disappear under an avalanche of Denver goals. The Pioneers scored nine times in the second half to take the lead at 17-15, but Vermont responded with late goals from Kate Sobocinski and Erin Hall to tie it a 17-17. UVM goalkeeper, Kate McBride, who had 18, saves on the day made a huge stop that sent the game into overtime.
Sophomore midfielder Tanya Fuchs (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored one of her five goals in OT, while Baldwin, who went to Vermont Academy, scored one of her season-high six goals in the extra session. The six goals are tied for fourth on Denver's all-time single-game record chart.
Senior Mariana Spry (Nashua, N.H.) also recorded two goals in the victory.
Denver goalkeeper sophomore Steph Schneider (Leesburgh, Va.) registered four saves.
The Pioneers will conclude their regular season on Sat., April 26 when they travel south on I-25 to take on the in-state-rival Colorado College Tigers. Faceoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. MT.
