Mountaineers Rally Past Pioneers, 16-8

EMMITSBURGH, Md. - The Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers used a 13-2 second-half run to rally past the University of Denver women's lacrosse team, 16-8, in non-conference action on March 19, in Emmitsburgh, Md. The Pioneers' second-consecutive loss drops them to 3-3. Mount St. Mary's improves to 4-3.

Senior midfielder Patience Baldwin (Baltimore, Md.) scored three times in the first half to help the Pioneers take a 6-3 intermission advantage. Sophomore midfielder Steph Greenlees (Lake Forest, Ill.) tallied two goals and one assist while junior attacker and Tara Bourdelaise (Gambrillis, Md.) added two markers in the loss.

The Mount's Erin LaMotte scored three straight goals in a span of 2 minutes and 22 seconds to erase a 7-4 deficit to pull the Mount even with the Pioneers at 7-7 at the 43:37 mark. The Mountaineers continued LaMotte's lead and found the twine five more times before Denver scored again. LaMotte finished the afternoon with four goals and one assist for five points. Kirby Day and Katie Mason each added three markers and a helper in the winning effort.

After Bourdelaise gave Denver a 7-4 lead on an unassisted goal at 34:43, LaMotte then took control of the contest over the next three minutes. Day feed LaMotte at 35:35 before the junior found the back of the net unassisted 1:05 later. LaMotte then completed the natural hat trick unassisted at the 37:57 mark, hitting the top-right netting and knotting the game at 7-7.

Lauren Reymann scored her first of two markers on the day off a feed from Mason at 43:37 to give Mount St. Mary's the advantage for good. Ellen Keener found the twine for the second time in the stanza at the 45:09 mark. Nichole DiAngelo and Day each converted free-position goals before LaMotte capped off the surge she started with an unassisted marker at 48:28.

Greenslees ended the Mount's run with a goal at 49:18 before Day hit back-to-back markers as Mount St. Mary's ended the contest with four unanswered goals on its way to a 16-8 win. With the victory, the Mount stopped a two-game losing streak against the Pioneers.

In the first half thanks to three goals from Baldwin, Denver jumped took a 6-3 advantage at the break. Mason kept the Mountaineers in the game with two goals and an assisted on the other first-half marker.

DiAngelo found the twine twice on the afternoon while Naomi Campano made 18 saves in the win.

Junior goalkeeper Steph Schneider (Leesburg, Va.) suffered the loss in goal. She recorded 18 saves on 35 shots.

The Pioneers will conclude their east coast spring break trip on Sun., March 21, when they travel to Newark, Del., to face-off against Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens at 10 a.m. MT.
