Delaware Dominates Denver, 15-7

NEWARK, Del. - The University of Delaware Fightn' Blue Hens used five points from three different players in a 15-7 non-conference victory over the University of Denver women's lacrosse team on Sunday (March 21) afternoon at Rullo Stadium. With their third-consecutive loss the Pioneers fall to 3-4 overall. Delaware improves to 2-3.

Michelle Campolettano scored five goals, all in the second half, while Jenny Diana notched three goals and two assists and Shannon Kron registered two goals and three assists.

Denver jumped out to an early 3-1 lead with 14:18 to go in the first half but Delaware would score four goals to close out the first half with a 5-4 lead. Midfielders Steph Greenlees (Lake Forest, Ill.) and Patience Baldwin (Baltimore, Md.) and junior attacker and Tara Bourdelaise (Gambrillis, Md.) keyed Denver to its early lead.

Delaware held the advantage in the second stanza of action, at it opened the half with goals from Diana and Campolettano just 22 seconds apart, scoring at 22:21 and 21:59, respectively.

The Pioneers answered back at 20:48 as Greenlees found the back of the net to cut the Delaware lead to 7-5 but Campolettano scored two consecutive goals to pull away for the win.

Megan also scored two goals and one assists, and Becky Rausa found the back of the net twice for the Blue Hens.

Baldwin and Greenlees each scored a pair of goals while freshman midfielder Kate Broderick (Chantilly, Va.) scored one goal and three assists for Denver in a losing effort. The three assists rank tied for second all-time in the Pioneers' record book. Mari Spry was the last player to record three assists in a match. She did so on May, 2, 2002, at Saint Mary's (Ca.).

Patrice Hughes picked up her second win of the season in the cage for Delaware, registering five saves.

Junior goalkeeper Steph Schneider (Leesburg, Va.) suffered the loss in goal. She recorded 11 saves.

Delaware outshot Denver, 44-16.

The Pioneers finally return home on Sun., March 28, when they play host to Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rival Stanford at 1 p.m.
