LIVERPOOL, N.Y. - Senior midfielder Patience Baldwin's (Baltimore, Md.) hat trick was not enough as the University of Denver women's lacrosse team fell to the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, 17-9, on Sunday afternoon in Liverpool, N.Y. The Pioneers second-consecutive loss drops them to 5-9. The Bonnies improve to 8-5.

St. Bonaventure wasn't slowed by the 15 minute rain delay, netting the afternoon's first two goals. Baldwin put Denver on the board off a free-position shot, making the score 2-1 at the 28:37 mark of the first half. The two teams then traded goals with junior defenseman Crystal Jack (Kingwood, Texas) scoring on another free-position shot for the Pioneers with 19 minutes remaining in the half. The Bonnies tallied three goals over the next five minutes to open a 6-2 lead, which they would never relinquish.

Denver did battle back however. Baldwin's second goal of the day came off a beautiful pass from sophomore midfielder Steph Greenlees (Lake Forest, Ill.). Junior attacker Tara Bourdelaise's (Gambrills, Md.) scored the Pioneers' second-consecutive goal, pulling them to within in 6-4 at the 4:47 mark of the first half. St. Bonaventure would tally three goals and Denver two over the final 10 minutes of the half. Greenlees and Jack each registered their second goals of the day, but the Bonnies still lead by three (9-6) at the intermission.

Much like Friday's game, Denver's opponent dominated play during the first minutes of the second half. St. Bonaventure scored eight of the half's first nine goals. Baldwin tallied her third of the day, but the Pioneers could not recover from the 17-7 deficit.

Bourdelaise and senior midfielder Alexis Shipman (Englewood, Colo.) tallied Denver's last two goals of the day, making the final score 17-9.

Junior goalie Steph Schneider (Leesburg, Va.) made 14 saves in the loss, while the St. Bonaventure's Elieen Gagnon made eight.

The Pioneers return to action on Wed., April 28, when they host Colorado College at 7 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
