Jonesboro, Ark. - Denver (1-10) led by seven at the half, but Arkansas State (6-7)stormed back on a 17-4 run to start the second half and went on to a 81-66 victory over the Pioneers.
The loss drops the Pioneers to 3-5 overall in Sun Belt Conference openers and 3-3 under head coach Terry Carroll.
Senior forward Antonio Porch (Denver, Colo.) scored a season-high 24 points and tied a career-high with five assists. Porch led the Pioneers for the fourth straight game, the first most consecutive games a Denver player has led the team in scoring since B.J. Pratt did it five times between Feb. 20, 2003 and Mar. 8, 2003.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 36-29 halftime advantage, led by Porch and senior guard DaShawn Walker (Chicago, Ill.), who scored 12 and 10 points in the half, respectively.
But Arkansas State charged out of the locker room in the second half. After Porch hit a jumper to start the half, the Indians went on a 17-2 run to take a six-point lead.
Walker returned to the lineup after missing the two previous games with a broken right big toe and scored 16 points in the game.
Arkansas State was led by guard Adrian Banks' 24 points and nine rebounds. Guard Ryan Wedel had 20 points and forward Isaac Wells had 17 points and eight rebounds. Banks and Wedel each hit six 3-pointers, hitting a combined 75 percent of their 3-point attempts.
Junior guard Steve Wetrich (Ottumwa, Iowa) did not play in the game due to a concussion he suffered during Sunday's loss to Northern Colorado.
