The University of Denver women's lacrosse team defeated Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe Saint Mary's, 18-4 Friday at Memorial Stadium. Kristie Leggio led all scorers with 10 points on eight goals and two assists. DU's sixth-consecutive victory moves the Pioneers to 8-2 over and 2-0 in the MPSF. SMC moves to 3-6 on the season.
After the Gaels took an early 2-1 lead on a goal by Molly Wagner, DU ripped off 11 straight to take a 12-2 lead at the intermission. Six of the Pioneers' goals came off the stick of Leggio in the half.
In the second half, DU did not slow down as it rallied off six more goals to take an 18-2 lead. SMC was able to tack on two more goals when Kim Reny found the back of the net with 12 minutes left on a pass by Wagner.
Jen Utley netted the last goal on an unassisted attempt with two minutes remaining.
Four Pioneer players tallied multi-goal games, including eight by Leggio and four by Stephanie Greenlees.
Sonja Kapusta put the Gaels on the board with a goal in the fifth minute.
DU outshot the Gaels, 50-23.
Becky Hakendorf earned the victory for Denver, posting four saves in 30 minutes of action. Sara Jo Rodriguez led all goalkeepers with nine saves.
DU will return to action on Sunday, April 2 at California. Face off is slated for 2 p.m. MT.
