BOULDER, Colo. - The University of Denver women's tennis team opened its fall season with two singles wins this afternoon at the CU Invitational against the host Colorado Buffaloes. Freshman Julia Bauregger (Kaernten, Germany) and sophomore Lorinda Boothman (Naples, Fla.) won their matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Bauregger defeated CU's Allison Quinn 6-0, 6-1, and Boothman beat CU's Christina Macey 6-0, 6-3.
DU's Annette Aksdal (Oslo, Norway) and Kyla Iwinski (Marietta, Ga.) each dropped three-set matches. Aksdal was ousted by No. 86 Monica Milewski 6-3, 6-7 and 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Iwinski lost 6-3, 3-6 and 6-3 to CU's Gleisy Torres Torres. The Buffaloes captured all three doubles matches from the Pioneers.
DU and CU will conclude the CU Invitational tomorrow morning with singles and doubles play beginning at 9 a.m. at Boulder South Campus Tennis Courts.
