The tournament will feature five singles draws featuring 16 players each, as well as one doubles draw with a maximum of 32 teams. In addition to determining singles and doubles champions for each draw, a team title is also awarded at the end of the weekend, which Denver has captured in four straight Bedford Cups.
Draws are expected to be available by Thursday, September 18.
Singles matches will be best-of-three sets with a full third set played in main draw matches only. Doubles matches will be one standard tiebreak set. Back draw matches will be added for both singles and doubles to provide more playing opportunities for all players. Any back-draw singles matches that reach third sets will play a 10-point tiebreak.
All 10 of Denver's student-athletes are expected to play this weekend, marking the DU debuts for senior transfer
Zoe Adkins, redshirt freshmen
Natali Jaiani and
Remy Nguyen, and true freshmen
Yunfei Cai and
Ruby Hansen.
DU returns four seniors in
Hana Bečirovič Novak,
Marley Lambert,
Claudia Martinez de Velasco and
Louise Wikander, and sophomore
Natálie Cinková.
Each Pioneer will play in singles. DU's anticipated doubles pairings to start the weekend are Martinez de Velasco/Wikander – the No. 71-ranked team in the ITA preseason doubles rankings – Bečirovič Novak/Cinková, Cai/Lambert, Adkins/Hansen and Jaiani/Nguyen.
The Bedford Cup is the first of four fall tournaments for the Pioneers this season. Next up, DU will head to the ITA Mountain Regional Championships, hosted by BYU, on October 7-11.
Denver will host its annual Colorado Cup tournament at Denver Tennis Park on October 24-26 before ending the season at the HEB Invite, hosted by Baylor, on November 7-9.
If selected, DU may also play at the ITA Conference Masters Championships in San Diego, California, on November 6-9. The tournament made its debut last season and features singles players and doubles teams selected by NCAA automatic-qualifying conferences.
DU's winter dual schedule will be announced later this fall.
