Pioneers Fall to Privateers, 89-66

The University of Denver was outscored by 25 points in the first half, and New Orleans never let up, downing the Pioneers, 89-66, Saturday night at the Human Performance Center.

 

Senior guard DaShawn Walker (Chicago) led the Pioneers (4-21, 3-12 SBC) with 17 points and added seven rebounds.

 

With 15 minutes remaining in the game, senior forward Antonio Porch (Denver) hit a bucket in the paint for No. 1,000 in his DU career. Porch it the ensuing free throw to give him seven points on the night.

 

UNO (12-13, 8-6 SBC) started the game on an 18-5 run, and Denver turned the ball over 21 times, its most since also recording 21 turnovers in a loss at Southern Utah on Nov. 27. The Pioneers are now 0-9 on UNO's home court.

 

 

Freshman guard Tyler Bullock (Lincoln, Neb.) chipped in 14 points for the Pioneers, all in the second half, and tied his career-high with seven rebounds. Junior center Adam Tanner (Melbourne, Australia) scored a career-high 12 points, and sophomore guard Brian Giometti (San Diego, Calif.) scored his first two points of the year.

 

Privateers guard Jamie McNeilly scored 26 points in the first half, outscoring the Pioneers and helping UNO to a 46-21 score as the teams headed to the locker room. By the end of the game, McNeilly scored 40 points, the most by a player in the Sun Belt this season.

 

The Pioneers return home for their final two home games of the year this week. First up is North Texas (16-9, 7-7 SBC) at Magness Arena on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. MT.
