Final Stats

DENVER -

Sophomore Karen Morton (Adelaide, Australia) scored a pair of goals and freshman Ali Flury (Arnold, Md.) scored her first goal, but it wasn't enough as Duke defeated Denver, 19-6, at Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Friday night.

The Blue Devils (1-0) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 10 minutes before the Pioneers jumped on the board with a goal by junior Megan Carver (Baltimore, Md.), who was playing her first game after missing all of last season with an injury.

Duke outscored DU 8-1 to finish the half with Morton picking up the Pioneers' goal with two minutes to play.

Denver (0-1) struck first after the break with Morton scoring. Duke answered, but Flury scored less than a minute later.

The Blue Devils scored four unanswered before senior Kristie Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) found the back of the net with 13:45 to play.

Duke scored another two, but sophomore Steph Coyne (Baltimore, Md.) gave the Pioneers their final goal with 20 seconds remaining.

For the Blue Devils, Cherry Creek High School product Carolina Cryer set Duke's single-season record with seven goals, and Kristen Waagbo became the team's career leader with her 75th assist on a feed to Cryer.

The Pioneers head out on a five-game road swing beginning with Columbia (0-0) on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. MT.
