DENVER - Freshman Tyler Bullock (Lincoln, Neb.) led six players in double figures with 15 points as the Denver Pioneers defeated Arkansas State 76-68 in Sun Belt Conference men's basketball action this afternoon at Hamilton Gymnasium. Senior Antonio Porch (13), Joe Jackson (12), Alex Cox (11), DaShawn Walker (11) and Adam Tanner (10) also landed in double figures for the Pioneers, who improved to 4-19 overall and 3-10 in the SBC with their first win since Jan. 18. Arkansas State received a game-high 24 points from Isaac Wells, but fell to 12-12 and 7-5 with the loss.

"We really concentrated on playing as a team and getting the win today," DU interim head coach Kevin Reynolds said. "We played unselfishly, especially in the first half, and got a couple of big baskets from Joe Jackson in the second half. We had six players in double figures and made our free throws to get a nice win."

After trailing 5-0 to start the game, the Pioneers went on a 10-0 run capped by a layup by Tanner. The Pioneers held their largest lead in the first half at 32-13 and led 39-24 at the half after a three-pointer by Cox, who finished the half with nine points and seven assists. Tanner added eight points, including two-pointers as the Pioneers went 6-for-10 from three-point land in the opening stanza.

The Indians started the second half with an 8-2 run to narrow the DU lead to 41-32, but the Pioneers regrouped with a 6-0 run capped by a Bullock rebound basket at the 16-minute mark. Arkansas State closed the gap to 69-63 with 1:02 remaining, but the Pioneers closed out the win with three free throws from Bullock and two each from Porch and Cox. Jackson scored eight of his 12 points off the bench in the second half.

DU outrebounded Arkansas State 45-33 as Bullock and Jackson led the effort with seven each. Cox tallied a team-high seven assists.

The Pioneers return to action on Thursday, Feb. 8 against Arkansas-Little Rock. Tip-off at Magness Arena is set for 7:07 p.m. MT.
