DU Tops Stony Brook, 17-9

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Freshman Ali Flury (Arnold, Md.) scored five goals Sunday, and sophomore Karen Morton (Adelaide, Australia) added four more, as the No. 16 Pioneers topped previously undefeated Stony Brook, 17-9.

 

The win completes a DU sweep of a five-game road swing over the past three weeks.

 

Flury put Denver (5-1) on the board first, scoring an unassisted goal just over three minutes into the game.

 

Stony Brook (3-1) answered a minute later with a goal from Kaitlin Leggio, the younger sister of DU senior midfielder Kristie Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.), who had a goal and two assists in the game.

 

After that Seawolves' goal, the Pioneers went on a 5-0 run and added another 5-0 run later in the game to put Stony Brook away.

 

Sophomore Steph Coyne (Baltimore, Md.) added two goals and three assists for Denver, while junior Megan Carver (Baltimore, Md.) had three assists.

 

Prior to the game, DU moved up to No. 9 in the computer rating.

 

The Pioneers return home to face George Washington at Barton Stadium on Tuesday, Mar. 13 at 4 p.m. MT.
