DENVER - Nat Borchers was named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Soccer 15th Anniversary First Team, while Liam Girard was chosen for the Third Team, announced the MPSF office on Monday. Matt Harrell and current DU midfielder Joey Mathot (Port Moody, British Columbia) were honorable mentions.

"It is a great testament to the University of Denver men's soccer program that in only nine seasons at Division I the MPSF would honor four Pioneers," head coach Bobby Muuss said. "These four players helped lay a solid foundation for great success in the future for DU soccer."

Borchers was the MPSF Player of the Year in 2002. Borchers was All-MPSF First Team in 2001 and 2002, and Second Team in 2000. In 75 career starts at DU from 1999 to 2002, the Pueblo, Colo., native compiled nine goals, eight assists and 26 points. A defensive midfielder, Borchers later went on to play for the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer and professionally in Norway.

Girard was a defender for the Pioneers from 2002-05, earning All-MPSF First Team during his senior season. The Victoria, British Columbia native made the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division I All-American Soccer Second Team for the Far-West in 2004 and was named to the third team in 2005. In 73 games with DU, Girard had seven goals, nine assists and 23 points, and he helped Denver hold opponents to 9.3 shots per game in 2005.

Harrell was named to the Midwest All-American Third Team in 2001, All-MPSF First Team in 2000 and All-MPSF Second Team in 2001. The forward from Littleton, Colo., played in 52 games for DU between 1999 and 2001 after transferring from Evansville, scoring 23 goals, 12 assists and 58 points.

Mathot was the Pioneers' Most Valuable Player in 2006, garnering All-MPSF First Team and NCAA Division I Far West All-Region Third Team honors. A sophomore midfielder, Mathot has compiled two goals, five assists and nine points in his 33 starts for Denver.

DU men's soccer will kick off the 2007 season against Marquette at Pioneer Field on Friday, Aug. 31.
