DU's Jessica Lopez to Represent Venezuela at Pan-Am Games

Sophomore was DU’s first three-time All-American in 2007

CARACAS, Venezuela DU Sophomore Jessica Lpez (Caracas, Venezuela) who became the first gymnast in school history to be a three-time All-American at the 2007 National Championships last April, will represent her native country of Venezuela and compete in the 2007 Pan American Games July 13-19 at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Lpez was selected for the team in June following a competition in Cuba, where she finished second on floor exercise with a score of 1430 and fourth on balance beam with a score of 1367. She will compete in all four disciplines at the Pan Am games (vault, bars, beam and floor exercise).

“We are extremely proud of Jessica and her accomplishments,” head coach Melissa Kutcher-Rinehart said..”It's a tremendous honor to be selected to compete for your country in competitions as prestigious as the Pan-Am Games. I hope Jessica's training at DU this past season helped her grow and mature as an athletes and as a person and as helped position her to be successful in all her future endeavors. I know Jessica will be successful whatever the outcome, we are all very proud! We look forward to exciting things from Jessica this upcoming season based on the type of training she is taking part in over the summer.”
