Senior Adam Holmstrom (Eskilstuna, Sweden) was named Sun Belt Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the third consecutive week, announced today.
Holmstrom holds a 10-0 singles mark and a 10-1 overall doubles record. Last weekend, the senior picked up his 93rd career singles win and 82nd career doubles win.
Holmstrom picked up four wins in Denver’s weekend split in Eugene, Ore. In the Pioneers 5-2 loss to No. 27 Washington, Holmstrom defeated Patrik Fischer 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and paired with doubles partner Niklas Persson (Stockholm, Sweden) to down Fischer and Jeevan Nedunchezhiya 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. In Denver’s 4-3 victory over Oregon, Holmstrom beat Marcos Verdasco 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and paired with Kalle Rosen (Helsingborg, Sweden) for an 8-4 victory over Alex Cornelissen and Romeo Mortera at No. 2 doubles.
Holmstrom is ranked No. 12 in singles and No. 9 in doubles with Persson in the latest ITA Tennis poll. Denver is currently ranked a program-best No. 37, passing last year’s record-high team ranking of No. 43.
The Pioneers continue on the road this weekend when they take on No. 30 Texas Tech (11-1). The match is scheduled for 11 a.m. MST at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock, Texas.
