Men's Tennis Opens with 7-0 Win

DENVER - The University of Denver men's tennis team opened its dual season with a 7-0 win over Eastern Washington late Friday at Meadow Creek Tennis Club. The No. 47 Pioneers won two of three doubles match for the doubles point and claimed all six singles points for the convincing win.

"It's great to start the season with everyone getting a win," two-time Sun Belt Conference men's tennis coach of the year Danny Westerman said. "We had three new players in the lineup and they looked very comfortable."

DU claimed the doubles point with wins from David Simson (Vienna, Austria) and Johan Gunnarsson (Vaxjo, Sweden) at No. 2 and Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) at No. 3.

Simson, Martin Zimmermann (Ludwigshafen, Germany), Benny Althaus (Saarbrucken, Germany), Weihs, Gunnarsson and Ravjot Dhatt (Victoria, British Columbia) all cruised to singles wins for DU.

The Pioneers return to action on Sunday, Jan. 25 at Air Force.
