DENVER - Head coach Jeremy Wurtzman announced that Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village), Elena Najera-Salas (San Diego, Calif.) and Natalie Dunn (Fort Collins) have signed National Letters of Intent to play tennis at the University of Denver. The three-some will join the Pioneers for the 2010-11 season. will be joining the team beginning next fall for the 2010-11 season.
"I am very excited to announce my first recruiting class at the University of Denver," Wurtzman said. "All three of the young women will have an impact on our program. I'm also thrilled that two of these recruits are from Colorado."
Schnell, who starred at Cherry Creek High School, is ranked No. 3 in the Intermountain Section and top 100 nationally. She is the No. 2 ranked player in Colorado and was the 2008 Colorado State Player of the Year. Schnell was a finalist for the Girls 18 National Open in El Paso, Texas and was a two-time state champion and MVP at Cherry Creek.
Najera-Salas is ranked No. 11 in California and is No. 53 nationally on tennisrecruiting.net. She recently placed sixth at the Southern California Sectionals and was CIF State High School Doubles champion in 2008.
Dunn, who starred at Poudre High School, won the Class 5A State Tournament in 2009 and is currently No. 6 in the Intermountain Section and No. 4 in Colorado. Recently, she won the Intermountain Sectionals Doubles title in Las Vegas and placed sixth at the Copper Bowl in 2009.
The Pioneers open the 2010 season against Colorado State on Jan. 22.
