DENTON, Texas - Denver took No. 60 Middle Tennessee to the limit in tonight's 4-3 loss at the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. DU battled, but fell short in the match that lasted four hours and 20 minutes.
Denver (10-11) claimed the doubles point, but Middle rebounded by claiming four singles wins, including a three-set win at No. 3 singles to clinch the match.
Down 1-0 in doubles, the Pioneers responded with wins at No. 3 and No. 2. Ravjot Dhatt (Victoria, British Columbia) and David Simson (Vienna, Austria) won 8-3 at No. 3, and Benny Althaus (Saarbrucken, Germany) and Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) won 8-6 at No. 2.
Middle took a 3-1 lead with wins at No. 1, 2 and 4 singles before DU tied it at 3-3 with wins from Andrew Landwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) and Dhatt and No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Althaus took Victor Melo to three sets at No. 4 singles, but lost in the deciding match.
