Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. University of Denver women’s lacrosse junior midfielder Lexi Sanders (Greenwood Village, Colo.) and freshman midfielder Kaiti Delaney (Denver, Colo.) both scored four goals, but the Pioneers fell 19-16 in their season finale at No. 16 Loyola on Saturday.
Denver (10-8) jumped out to an early 3-1 lead with 21:44 remaining in the first half, including a pair of goals by Delaney), but Loyola (11-6) scored the next six goals.
Sanders snapped the Greyhounds’ run with a goal at the 3:29 mark, but the teams traded goals the rest of the way, as Loyola took a 9-6 lead to halftime.
Senior attacker Megan Carver (Baltimore, Md.) and freshman midfielder Lauren Ciccomascolo (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) scored 21 seconds apart to cut the deficit to 9-8 with 26:25 remaining in the game.
After a pair of Loyola goals, Sanders scored a pair within 25 seconds of each other to bring Denver within a goal at 21:36.
The teams traded the next seven goals until Loyola went on a three-goal run to take the lead for good.
Sanders, Delaney and senior attacker Steph Coyne (Baltimore, Md.) scored down the stretch, but it wasn’t enough to top the Greyhounds.
Senior midfielder Karen Morton (Adelaide, Australia) scored two goals to increase her DU record total to 190 in her career. Morton also ends her career as DU’s leader in points (255), draw controls (162) and caused turnovers (106).
Coyne had two goals and two assists, increasing her DU record to 132 career assists.
Colleen O’Keefe led the Greyhounds with four goals and two assists, while Grace Gavin added four goals and an assist.
