Pioneer Attackman Alex Demopoulos Honored by ECAC

CENTERVILLE, Mass. - For the second straight week a University of Denver men's lacrosse player was honored by the Eastern College Athletic Conference. For his efforts in the Pioneers' 17-13 win over No. 20 Albany, sophomore attackman Alex Demopoulos (Canton, Conn.) was tabbed the Co-Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced today by the league office.

Denver is in its first season as members of the ECAC. Demopoulos was honored alongside Loyola's Matt Langan as he lead Denver with three goals and three assists in the Pioneers' home opener.

CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Alex Demopoulos, Denver

Sophomore , Attack, Canton, Conn.

Demopoulos led the Pioneers for the week, tallying three goals and recording three assists to finish with six points as the Pioneers defeated No. 20 Albany at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. The attackman had six shots, placing five on goal, and also scooped up five ground balls in his third start of the season.

Matt Langan, Loyola

Junior , Attack, Madison, N.J.

Langan scored a career-high six points to lead Loyola's offense in an 11-5 win to open ECAC Lacrosse League action at Quinnipiac. The junior attacker matched his career-high with three goals and set a new career-best with three assists. Two of his goals came in the second half as the Greyhounds extended their lead from 5-3 at halftime to 11-4 late in the game. Langan also had two ground balls and a caused turnover for Loyola.

CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Dillon Ward, Bellarmine

Freshman, Goalkeeper, Orangeville, ON

Ward started the second half in goal for the Knights versus St. Joseph's, allowing no goals and registering 11 saves in 30 minutes as Bellarmine shutout the Hawks in the second half.

Joe Marra, Fairfield

Senior, Goalkeeper, Smithtown, N.Y.

Marra backstopped the Stags to a 5-3 win over Bryant . He made 14 saves in the contest, while allowing only three goals. Marra stopped five shots in blanking the Bulldogs in the opening quarter and then stopped two in the fourth quarter, also holding Bryant scoreless. The senior also picked up a team-high four ground balls in the contest

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Logan Schuss, Ohio State

Freshman, Attack, Delta, British Columbia

Schuss had a team-high three assists and six points in Ohio State's win over Detroit and shared team-high honors with three goals. He assisted on the go-ahead goal (2-1) in the first quarter and added a goal later to put Ohio State ahead 6-1. He scored early in the second quarter and set up a Mike Smail score later in the stanza. In the third quarter Schuss completed his first career hat trick and he assisted on a man-up score by Mario Ventiquattro. He had eight shots (five on goal) and two groundballs in the win over the Titans.The three goals, three assists and six points all were career highs for Schuss (who was playing in his third career game), who has a team-best six goals, four assists and 10 points on the year.
