Men's Tennis Rolls into SBC Finals

NEW ORLEANS - No. 34 Denver (19-3) rolled into the Sun Belt Conference championship finals after its 4-1 win over Middle Tennessee at the New Orleans Tennis Center on Saturday.

The Pioneers will play Troy in the finals on Saturday.

The Pioneers won the doubles point and received singles wins from Enej Bonin (Kopar, Slovenia), Fabio Biasion (Velbert, Germany) and Andrew Landwerlen (Las Cruces, N.M.) to earn their school-best 19th win since turning NCAA Division I.

Denver battled back for the doubles point after a loss at No. 2. First, Biasion and Bonin beat Richard Cowden and Shaun Waters, 8-4, at No. 3. Then the Pioneers clinched the point when Landwerlen and David Simson (Vienna, Austria) beat No. 87 Kyle Wishing and John Peers, 9-7, at No. 1.

Bonin gave DU a 2-0 lead when Cowden retired during the first set. Biasion made it 3-0 with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Shaun Waters at No. 4.

Peers tallied Middle Tennessee's lone point with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) at No. 1 before Landwerlen clinched the win for DU with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Wishing at No. 6.
