Denver Defeated 11-7 at Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Junior Melissa Maier (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had two goals, but the University of Denver women's lacrosse team was defeated 11-7 by Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon.

Denver (0-4) fell behind 29 seconds into the contest, when Stony Brook's Victoria Cable scored, and the Seawolves (2-1) never surrendered the lead.

Junior Lauren Ciccomascolo (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) and redshirt sophomore Kara Secora (Denver, Colo.) both had a goal and an assist, and senior Kelsey McDowell (Rydal, Penn.) added three groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers.

The Pioneers return to Denver for their home opener at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium against St. Mary's on Friday, March 4 at 4 p.m. MT. DU will then host No. 3 North Carolina on Monday, March 7 at 4 p.m. MT.
