Pioneers Fall 60-35 at Arkansas State

Box Score

JONESBORO, Ark. - University of Denver freshman forward Chris Udofia (Irving, Texas) had 11 points and nine rebounds, but the Pioneers fell 60-35 to Arkansas State on Saturday night at the Convocation Center.

"Arkansas State played extremely well," head coach Joe Scott said. "You've got to give them credit. Things went very well for them all game, and things did not go well for us at all. We have to learn from this game tonight, and we have to make sure we remember this game."

Denver (11-12, 7-4 SBC) shot just 25.0 percent (11-of-44) from the field and 17.6 percent (3-of-17), while the Red Wolves (13-13, 7-4 SBC) made 40.5 percent (17-of-42) from the field.

Arkansas State dominated the Pioneers in the first half, taking a 33-13 lead to the locker room after going on an 18-0 run over a seven minute span. DU shot just 21.1 percent (4-of-19) before the break, while ASU headed to the half hitting 10-of-25 (40.0 percent) from the floor.

Arkansas State stretched the lead to as many as 33 points with 9:06 remaining in the game before Denver went on an 8-1 run to cut into the ASU lead. However, the deficit proved too much, as the Red Wolves held on down the stretch.

Arkansas State was led by Donald Boone, ASU's only player in double digits with 10 points.

Denver returns home for a battle of the Sun Belt Conference division leaders, as the SBC West Division leading Pioneers will host the SBC East Division leading Florida Atlantic Owls on Thursday at 7 p.m. Fans can watch the game live on FSN Rocky Mountain, listen on Mile High Sports Radio AM 1510 and FM 93.7, or hear the broadcast on PioneerVision available through DenverPioneers.com.
