LINCOLN, Neb. - The University of Denver men's tennis team ended a five-match losing streak with a 6-1 win over No. 74 East Tennessee State Saturday night at the Nebraska Indoor Tennis Center.
DU (2-5) won all three doubles matches and five singles matches to claim the win. East Tennessee State falls to 0-5 with the loss.
"It feels very good to break through and get a solid win," head coach Danny Westerman said. "We have been competing hard and today we executed much better. I'm very happy for the guys to be able to enjoy a win with all of the hard work we are putting in."
At No.1 doubles, DU's duo of No. 39 Enej Bonin (Koper, Slovenia) and Jens Vorkefeld (Ostercappeln, Germany) came away with a 9-8 victory over ETSU's Robin Asker and Sander Gillie. Yannick Weihs (Guntramsdorf, Austria) and Othar Kordsachia (Hamburg, Germany) earned a 9-8 victory at No.2 doubles, while Max Krammer (Perchtoldsdorf, Austria) and Fabio Biasion (Velbert, Germany) solidified the sweep for the Crimson and Gold at No. 3 doubles.
Weihs, Vorkefeld, Biasion, Krammer and Alex Clinkenbeard (Loveland, Colo.) all recorded singles victories for the Pioneers. Weihs defeated Jesus Bandres 6-3, 7-6 at No. 2 singles, while Vorkefeld earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Asker at No. 3 singles. Krammer defeated Jeremy Bonnevalle 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 singles, and Clinkenbeard outlasted Jorge Varon 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 at No. 6.
