Delaware Downs Denver 7-6

Box Score

NEWARK, Del. - University of Denver redshirt senior Kara Secora (Denver, Colo.) scored four goals and redshirt sophomore goalie Hannah Hook (Arnold, Md.) made 10 saves, but the Pioneers fell 7-6 at Delaware on Sunday afternoon.

"It was an ugly game with a ton of uncaused turnovers on both sides," head coach Liza Kelly said. "It gives us a chance to make some changes heading into next weekend."

Denver (2-1) jumped to an early lead off goals from junior Jenn Etzel (Bel Air, Md.) and Secora in the first 2:12, but the Blue Hens (2-1) tied the game up less than eight minutes later.

Secora scored again off the first of two assists by sophomore Jill Remenapp (Woodbine, Md.) before Delaware battled back with three goals.

The Pioneers knotted the game at 5-5 just before halftime with two more goals from junior Annabelle Gilbride (Alexandria, Va.) and Secora.

Defense took over in the second half, keeping the game scoreless until the 16:17 mark when Caitlin McCartney put the Blue Hens back in front, and McCartney scored again with just 1:42 remaining in the game.

Secora scored her final goal with 21 seconds left, but Delaware held on for the lead.

Denver opens the home schedule on Saturday, March 2, when Louisville visits Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
