WHERE WERE WE/WHERE ARE WE GOING...
• The Pioneers got goals from Quentin Shore, Zac Larraza and Ty Loney to win their 2014-15 opener 3-0 on Friday night.
• After this weekend's series, Denver opens NCHC play at Minnesota Duluth (10/24-25)
200 WINS AT MAGNESS...
• Denver holds a 200-90-19 record in games played inside Magness Arena since the facility opened in 1999-00.
• The Pioneers were 10-7-1 on home ice in 2013-14.
• DU outscored its opponents 50-38 in its 18 home games last season.
THE MONTH OF THE PUMPKIN...
• Denver is 60-26-6 in the month of October since the 2001-02 campaign.
• The Pioneers have played .500 hockey or better in the month of October every season since the 2000-01 campaign.
WHO'S BACK IN THE CRIMSON AND GOLD...
• The Pioneers return 21 letterwinners from the team that finished 20-16-6 a year ago, while only losing five letterwinners.
• DU head coach Jim Montgomery replaced his five lettermen lost with like-for-like freshmen, as the Pioneers welcome two forward, two defensemen and a goaltender to the program.
OUTSIDE LEAGUE PLAY...
• The Pioneers are 97-42-5 in non-conference action since 2001-02.
• Denver finished 2013-14 6-4-3 in games against non-conference opponents, including 4-1-1 inside Magness Arena.
• DU outscored its non-conference opponents 34-29 last season.
NCHC BEGINS SECOND SEASON...
• Denver and the rest of the NCHC will begin its second season together in 2014-15.
• The National Collegiate Hockey Conference was founded in the summer of 2011 when six institutions bonded together to form a collection of some of the most notable college hockey programs in the nation. Just a few months later, the conference grew to eight teams and established the foundation for this prestigious group of institutions. Built on the principles of excellence both on and off the ice, the NCHC is committed to fostering an environment of integrity, sportsmanship and competition.
• The Pioneers were picked fourth in the NCHC Preseason Poll that was released on Sept. 25.
C IS FOR CAPTAIN...
• Head coach Jim Montgomery named junior winger Grant Arnold captain in June.
• Arnold will be backed by alternates Josiah Didier, Joey LaLeggia and Daniel Doremus.
SCOUTING RPI...
• The Engineers are coming off a 1-1 weekend at the Icebreaker Tournament last weekend, defeating No. 12/13 Notre Dame 3-2, before falling to No. 1/1 Minnesota 3-0.
• RPI returns all three goaltenders from last season, including senior Scott Diebold who set a school record with 36 aps last season.
• The Engineers brought in eight new players in 2014-15, including seven freshmen.
• Senior Matt Neal led all returning Engineers with 27 points and 10 goals.
• Senior Jacob Laliberte led the team with 18 assists, and had 26 points overall
• Senior captain Curtis Leonard and junior Chris Bradley led the blueliners with 12 points apiece.
what it means to be a STUDENT athlete...
• 19 Pioneers earned NCHC Academic honors in 2013-14
• Then sophomore Gabe Levin was selected to the eight-member NCHC Scholar Athlete Team.
• Current Pioneers joining Levin on the academic honor list were: Grant Arnold, Evan Cowley, Josiah Didier, Daniel Doremus, Brad Hawkinson, Larkin Jacobson, Evan Janssen, Zac Larraza, David Makowski, Matt Marcinew, Nick Neville, Greg Ogard, Emil Romig, Quentin Shore, Matt VanVoorhis and Nolan Zajac.
• A total of 133 NCHC student-athletes received academic conference honors for achieving a cumulative GPA above 3.0.
