Denver Women's Tennis Collects Second Win of the Week

Reno, Nev.- The No. 70 University of Denver women’s tennis team defeated Nevada 5-2 in Reno, Nev., on Saturday.

Denver is 4-6 following the win, while Nevada falls to 5-3.

Nevada took an early lead, winning the doubles points. The Pioneer duo of Maureen Slattery (Newport News, Va.) and Natalie Dunn (Fort Collins, Colo.) claimed the lone doubles win of the day, defeating Caroline Konigsfeldt and Beatriz Garcia Planas 8-4 in the No. 3 spot.

In singles, Denver made a comeback, taking five of six matches. Kathryn Hughes (Wrexham, Wales) posted the first singles win, beating Sheila Smiley 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 4 spot. Next, Sonja Radosevic (Miami, Fla.) defeated Konigsfeldt  6-2, 6-2 in the No. 3 spot and Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) came out on top over Sheila Morales Hidalgo (NEV) 7-5, 6-3 in the No. 2 spot. Netting the last two victories of the match were Evy Van Genechten (Antwerp, Belgium) and Charlotte Derbyshire (Stockton, England). Van Genechten first won the No. 5 spot 6-1, 6-2 against Monika Magusiak, then Derbyshire beat Juliette Legendre 7-6(7-4), 6-3 in the No. 6 spot.

University of Denver women’s tennis travels next to Texas to face Louisville on Saturday, March 8 at 11 a.m., MT and North Texas on Sunday, March 9 at 11 a.m., MT.
