Denver Women's Tennis Upset by Fresno State

FRESNO, CALIF.- The No. 58 University of Denver women’s tennis team was defeated by Fresno State 6-1 in Fresno, Calif. on Thursday.

Denver falls to 5-7 following the loss, while Fresno State improves to 8-8.

Fresno State quickly claimed the doubles point, winning two of three matches. In the No. 3 spot, Maureen Slattery (Newport News, Va.) and Natalie Dunn (Fort Collins, Colo.) posted a 8-7 win over Anne Susdorf and Rana Sherif Ahmed. Denver duo of Caroline Schnell (Greenwood Village, Colo.) and Michelle Garpenlov (Tyreso, Sweden) battled through a close match in the No. 2 spot, but could not post a victory.

Schnell garnered a singles win for the Pioneers. The senior netted a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 victory over Rana Sherif Ahmed in the No. 2 spot. Sophomores Kathryn Hughes (Wrexham, Wales) Charlotte Derbyshire (Stockton, England) fell just short after pushing their competitors to three sets in the No. 3 and 6 spots.

The University of Denver women’s tennis team is back in action on Tuesday, March 25 when it hosts Colorado State University at Stapleton Tennis Pavilion at 2 p.m., MT.
