Denver Falls at South Dakota State 69-39

BROOKINGS, S.D. - Daniel Amigo (El Paso, Texas) scored a career-high 14 points but it was not enough as the University of Denver men's basketball team fell 69-39 to the South Dakota State Jackrabbits Saturday afternoon at Frost Arena.

The Pioneers (9-13, 3-6 Summit League) remained winless on the road in The Summit League as the Jackrabbits (17-7, 8-2 Summit League) won their eighth straight league game.



South Dakota State extended its home winning streak to 15 games and remained atop the Summit League standings.



The Crimson and Gold trailed by nine points at halftime and were never able to get any closer and could not overcome the hot-shooting of the Jackrabbits as the trio of George Marshall (20 points), Deondre Parks (13 points) and Cody Larson (12 points) combined for 45 points.



"You have to give South Dakota State credit as they have been playing well especially here at home," head coach Joe Scott said. "We had 11 first half turnovers and that set the tone for the second half."



Brett Olson (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) scored seven points, while Cam Griffin (San Antonio, Texas) scored two points and grabbed seven rebounds.



Denver shot 33.3 percent (12-of-36), to South Dakota State's red-hot 59.5 percent (25-of-42) from the field. The Pioneers made 36.4 percent from behind the 3-point line (4-of-11). The Jackrabbits shot 33.3 percent (4-of-12) from 3-point range.



The Pioneers came out hitting five of their first six shots, but were done in by 11 first half turnovers. South Dakota State converted the DU turnovers into 11 first half points. Denver did outrebound the Jackrabbits 10-9 in the first half.



The Crimson and Gold led 13-10 in the first half before SDSU went on an 11-1 run to take their first lead of the half. Denver trailed 32-23 going into the locker room.



Denver was led by Nate Engesser (Colorado Springs, Colo.) who had six points in the first half. Olson dropped in five points, while Griffin added four rebounds. The Pios bench came in and scored 10 first half points.



Denver shot 47.1 percent (8-of-17) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes. The Pioneers hit for 57.1 percent (4-of-7) from behind the arc in the first half. South Dakota State shot 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the floor. The Jackrabbits shot 37.5 percent (3-of-8) from behind the 3-point line.



Notes: T he South Dakota State halftime show featured a live pig auction at half court with the winning bid coming in at $2,250.
