Jan. 7, 2015

Summit League Release

DENVER -
The University of Denver men's tennis team has been picked to finish first in the The Summit League in the preseason poll after winning the championship this past season.

Denver received six-of-seven first place votes for a total of 36 points. Fort Wayne, the 2014 runner-up, claimed the remaining first-place vote and finished second with 30 points. South Dakota State (24), Oral Roberts (20), IUPUI (17), Omaha (14) and Western Illinois (6) rounded out the poll.

The Pioneers return both The Summit League's 2014 Player of the Year in junior Henry Craig (Murrieta, Calif.) and the Newcomer of the Year in sophomore Diogo Rocha (Lisbon, Portugal).

Craig has been ranked as the No. 64 singles player in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason rankings. Craig and sophomore Alex Gasson (Alton, United Kingdom) have been ranked as the No. 33 doubles pairing in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason rankings.

Craig competed in both the 2014 NCAA Singles and Doubles Tournaments and advanced to the round of 16 with teammate Gasson after the duo upset No. 6 Texas A&M. The tandem advanced to the 2014 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship in November.

The Pioneers will kick-off the spring season with the Florida State University Invitational in Tallahassee, Florida on January 10-11. Denver will have their first home match of the season on January 31 against Princeton at 4:30 p.m. MST.
